Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are well.

I am writing to introduce myself as the new BEBCMAT Trust Lead for PE. I am looking forward to working with our schools to further develop and strengthen PE, school sport and physical activity across the Trust.

As you may be aware the DfE is changing the way funding is allocated through the sports premium. For the 2026 to 2027 academic year, the guidance has been updated to reflect current DfE expectations, including a transitional phase as the government prepares to move towards a new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network. Initial reading indicates that funding must support sustainable improvements targeting five key areas:

1. Staff development in teaching PE and sport.

2. Pupil engagement in daily physical activity.

3. Whole-school profile raising for PE and sport.

4. Broader experiences via diverse activities.

5. Competitive sport participation.

We are still waiting on final confirmation from the government about how the PE and School Sport Partnerships Network will look (I believe more information could be released after Christmas).

The following links give further details about the potential changes.

I will, of course, keep colleagues updated should I hear anymore regarding the changes to sports premium funding.

Please could I ask that schools complete their sports premium report for last academic year and upload to your school website by 30th Nov? The Trust is completing website compliance checks the week beginning 30th Nov.

Finally the PE Primary leads network meeting will be held on 10th Dec 2026 at English Martyrs. Agenda items to be finalised but will include the following:

  • Discussion regarding the potential changes to the sports premium funding structure and what that means for Primary PE and Sport
  • A chance to hear from Cross Curricular orienteering and Outdoor Education North West regarding potential opportunities to fulfill the OAA stand of the national curriculum at KS2.
  • Planning for the Primary Trust Olympics.

Key Dates:

  • BEBCMAT Primary Trust Olympics - Thursday 8th July 2027 (please note the change of date) at Blackpool Stanley Park Sports Arena. 12pm - 3.15pm.
  • PE Primary Leads network meeting - Thursday 10th Dec 2026 at English Martyrs  (154 High Cross Rd, Poulton-le-Fylde FY6 8DA) 4pm - 5pm
  • Website compliance checks carried out by the Trust - Week Beginning 30th Nov.

If you have any questions or require any additional support please dont hesitate to get in touch with me.

Many Thanks

Dan Reidy, Head of PE SMCA
