Neonatal Care Leave Policy

Welcoming a new baby is a life-changing experience, and we understand that it can be especially challenging when a baby requires specialist medical care in the early days. To support our staff during this critical time, the Trust has introduced a Neonatal Care Leave Policy, effective from Summer Term 2025.

This policy provides eligible staff with additional paid leave to care for a baby receiving neonatal care, including hospital treatment or ongoing medical support under a consultant. It applies to all staff across the Trust, regardless of length of service, and includes biological, adoptive, and surrogate parents, as well as partners with shared caring responsibilities.

Key features of the policy include:

  • Up to 12 weeks of neonatal care leave, taken in blocks of at least one week.
  • Leave can be taken before or after other family leave, depending on individual circumstances.
  • Statutory Neonatal Care Pay for eligible staff.
  • Flexible notice periods and compassionate support during difficult times.

We are committed to supporting our staff’s wellbeing and family life. Full details, including how to apply and who to contact for support, are available in the policy document or via the HR department.

If you have any questions or need guidance, please reach out to your line manager or HR.
