The Blessed Edward Bamber Catholic Multi Academy Trust (BEBCMAT) is committed to supporting a fair and transparent approach to managing teachers’ working time. Directed time refers to the hours when teachers are required to be available for work and perform duties as directed by senior leaders. For full-time teachers, this equates to 1,265 hours across 195 days during the school year, with part-time staff allocated on a pro-rata basis.

This policy ensures:

  • Clarity and fairness in how directed time is allocated.
  • Work-life balance for all teaching staff.
  • A consistent approach across our Trust schools.

Headteachers will provide an annual Directed Time Calendar, detailing teaching commitments, meetings, INSET days, and other directed activities. Teachers will also receive an individual breakdown of their directed time for transparency.

By defining directed time clearly, we aim to foster a supportive environment where professional duties are balanced with wellbeing.
